Use of preposition and their position
Mostly prepositions are used before the object… like
  • the pen is on the table.
  • He is at his office.
  • She is fond of music.
Condition when preposition is used after object
when “that” is used as relative pronoun, preposition is used in end of the sentence...Like
This is the book that you asked for.
This is the car that you traveled by.

If object is hidden ,then preposition is also used at the end of the sentence..Like
This is the car (that) you were looking for.
With interrogative pronoun (who, whom, what, which) proposition is used at the end of the sentence...Like
  • what are you looking at?
  • Which of the book you looking for?
  • Whom are you talking with?
Sometime to give emphasis, object is used at the starting and preposition is used at the end of the sentence ..Like
  • Him I depend on.
  • This is insisting on?
  • That you must speak out.
Example….
  1. This is the motto that I was insisting on.
  2. This is the vacancy that he has applied for.
  3. It is her goal that she is running for.
  4. Who are you thinking of?
  5. Which chair did you sit on?
  6. Which office does he work in?
  7. Whom are she is complaining against?
  8. That I am really proud of?
  9. What do you accuse him of?

Omission of preposition

In some conditions we omit the preposition, because there is no need of preposition. There is no use of proposition before the object of transitive verb. like
  • I shall meet him yesterday. (No meet with him)
  • They caught him there. (No caught to him)
  • She read a book.  (No read of a book)
  • We have done our task. (No we have done of our  ...)
Before the expression of time or place we don’t use preposition like (for, from, in on) like
  • my father came here last week (No in last week)
  • I am going abroad .( no going to abroad)
  • Please wait a minute. (No wait for a minute)
  • She is standing outside. (No on outside)
Don’t use preposition If there is any qualifying words like this, that, next, every, last, all before the time expressions
word like - day, night, morning, evening year, month …like
  • She went this morning.
  • They met him last evening.
  • He is not coming again next Sunday.
But we can use preposition with time expression words if they come without qualifying words like
  • She went in the morning.
  • They met him in the evening.
  • He is coming again next Sunday.
  • He is not coming again on Sunday.
  • She doesn’t come in the night.
Don’t use preposition before words like yesterday, today, tomorrow like
  • He will come tomorrow.
  • He is not coming today.
  • They came yesterday.
No preposition before home
  • I am going home.
  • I go home every weekend.

If there are two verbs in sentence, then use preposition according to their verbs like
  • she has been thinking about and waiting for you since the morning.
  • Police has been looking for and inquiringly after the thief for a long time.
